FW 2027 Cashmere Trend Forecast: 5 Silhouettes and 3 Colors B2B Buyers Are Booking for 2027

The cashmere market in Q3 2026 is in an unusual position: most of the European and Japanese buyers we work with are booking FW 2027 production now, six months earlier than the historical norm. The reason is a confluence of factors — the 2025-2026 raw fiber correction is over, the EU luxury demand is recovering, and the Ordos dehairing capacity for 2027 is already 60% allocated to repeat orders from 2024-2026 customers. If you want a meaningful allocation in 2027, you are booking in 2026. This is a real-time forecast, not a retrospective.

This page is what we are seeing in our sample room in Q3 2026 — the 5 silhouettes, 3 colors, and 2 material directions that B2B buyers are placing pre-orders against. If you are planning a FW 2027 program and want to align with the market direction rather than guess at it, this is the data we are using to allocate our own 2027 production.

1. Why the timing is different in 2026

The cashmere market operates on a 12-18 month development cycle for B2B programs. A FW 2027 program typically starts development in Q1 2026, locks the silhouette in Q2, places PO in Q3-Q4 2026, and ships in Q3 2027 for the FW 2027 retail season.

In 2026, two structural factors have compressed the cycle for most European and Japanese buyers we work with:

The 2025-2026 raw fiber correction has bottomed. The 32% drop from late 2023 to mid 2025 has stabilized. Buyers who held off on 2026 development because they expected further price drops are now committing to 2027 production at current prices — which is roughly 70% of the 2023 peak. The result is a 6-month pull-forward of orders that would normally have been 2027 H1.

Ordos dehairing capacity for 2027 is already 60% allocated to repeat orders. Our facility, like most reputable Ordos mills, has a fixed annual dehairing capacity. Repeat customers with framework agreements book their 2027 allocation in Q4 2026. The remaining 40% is open to new customers and existing customers without framework agreements, and that 40% is closing fast.

For a buyer placing a FW 2027 PO in Q1 2027 instead of Q4 2026, the practical difference is:

  • Price: Likely 3-6% higher (raw fiber still soft, but labor and electricity are tightening)
  • Lead time: Likely 6-8 weeks longer (dehairing line already booked)
  • Color flexibility: Reduced — most of the 2027 dye-lot program is already allocated

The implication is: the buyers who are placing pre-orders in Q3-Q4 2026 are doing the right thing, and the buyers who are still “deciding” in Q1 2027 will face a tighter market.

2. The 5 silhouettes we are seeing in FW 2027 pre-orders

The sample room activity in Q3 2026 is concentrated on 5 silhouettes. These are not the entire 2027 program, but they are the 5 forms that are generating the most development requests, and the ones that B2B buyers are placing pre-orders against. If you are starting a FW 2027 program, this is the silhouette mix to consider.

Silhouette 1: The Editorial Half Cardigan (32% of FW 2027 requests). The drop-shoulder half cardigan from our AW 2026-27 sample room is now being booked for FW 2027. The shift from AW 26-27 to FW 2027 is mostly about color and material — buyers who saw the silhouette in 2026 are now booking it in heavier 9gg gauge and warmer color palettes (Eclipse Earth + Saffron Caramel) for the FW 2027 retail season. The pre-order MOQ is 250 pieces per colorway; 5 colorways is the typical capsule.

Silhouette 2: The Heavy Polo (24% of FW 2027 requests). Same as AW 2026-27 — the heavy polo at 7gg is now the lead menswear item for FW 2027. Buyers are booking 100% cashmere and 90/10 cashmere/wool variants; the 90/10 is winning for the 300+ piece orders because the unit price is more competitive for the B2B margin model. Pre-order MOQ 300 pieces per colorway; 3 colorways is typical.

Silhouette 3: The Long Cardigan (19% of FW 2027 requests). This is a new silhouette for FW 2027 — not in our AW 2026-27 sample room. The form is a long-line cardigan hitting mid-thigh, with a wide ribbed shawl collar, 5-button closure, and a slightly oversized body. The request count is rising because it fills the gap between the half cardigan (lighter layer) and the full-length coat (outerwear). Pre-order MOQ 200 pieces per colorway; 4 colorways is the typical capsule.

Silhouette 4: The Funnel Neck (15% of FW 2027 requests). The funnel neck from AW 2026-27 is now being booked for FW 2027 in the 9gg / 2/26 Nm specification, with a slight shape adjustment — the collar is 1cm taller and the body is 2cm shorter than the 2026 version. Pre-order MOQ 250 pieces per colorway; 3 colorways typical.

Silhouette 5: The Mock-Neck Sweater (10% of FW 2027 requests). A new silhouette for FW 2027 — a 1/2 mock-neck (a funnel neck that is shorter and does not fold), 14gg, 2/48 Nm worsted. The silhouette is positioned as an under-blazer piece for men and a stand-alone piece for women. Pre-order MOQ 200 pieces per colorway; 4 colorways typical.

The combined mix: 32 / 24 / 19 / 15 / 10 — a reasonable distribution for a 5-silhouette FW 2027 program. The dominant single silhouette is the Editorial Half Cardigan, which is consistent with the 2026 data and the larger trend toward editorial layering pieces in the European market.

3. The 3 colors we are seeing in FW 2027 pre-orders

The 5 palettes in our 2026-2027 color forecast (Eclipse Earth, Botanica, Twilight Plum, Boreal, Saffron Caramel) are the palette options for FW 2027. The 3 colors that are getting the most pre-order volume in Q3 2026 are:

Color 1: Eclipse Cocoa (Pantone 19-0915, “Truffle”). The deep cool brown that anchored Eclipse Earth in 2026 is the single most-booked color for FW 2027. Buyers are placing 30-40% of their pre-orders in Eclipse Cocoa. It is the safe anchor color and the most versatile for European and Japanese markets.

Color 2: Boreal Blue (Pantone 17-3930, “Boreal Blue”). The soft cool blue that anchored Boreal in 2027 is the second-most-booked color. Buyers are placing 20-25% of their pre-orders in Boreal Blue, which is significantly higher than the 2026 share for blue-family colors. The Boreal trend is gaining commercial momentum.

Color 3: Saffron Caramel (Pantone 17-1456, “Saffron”). The deep warm gold is the third-most-booked color, but with a different pattern than Cocoa or Boreal — Saffron Caramel is the hero-piece color, with buyers typically booking 1-2 pieces per 100-piece capsule. The number of buyers booking Saffron Caramel is high; the volume per buyer is low. The aggregate Saffron Caramel volume is similar to Boreal Blue, but spread across more programs.

The non-booked colors: Botanica (Sage, Pampas, Soft Ochre) is under-booked for FW 2027 — buyers are waiting for SS 2027 to see if the trend develops. Twilight Plum is also under-booked — the deep purple is too high-fashion for a B2B capsule.

For a balanced FW 2027 program, the suggested color mix is:

  • 50-60% Eclipse Earth family (Cocoa + Driftwood + Charred Umber)
  • 20-25% Boreal family (Boreal Blue + Mist)
  • 10-15% Botanica (Sage + Pampas, if you want a softer direction)
  • 5-10% Saffron Caramel (one or two hero pieces)
  • <5% Twilight Plum (one piece, if at all)

4. The 2 material directions for FW 2027

In addition to silhouettes and colors, two material directions are emerging for FW 2027 that are worth knowing:

Direction 1: 100% cashmere at heavier gauges. The dominant FW 2026 material is 2/26 Nm at 9gg-12gg (200-300g per piece for sweaters). The dominant FW 2027 material is moving toward 2/26 Nm at 7gg-9gg (350-500g per piece for sweaters, 450-650g for cardigans). The shift is partly a trend signal (heavier cashmere is the editorial direction) and partly a unit-price pressure response — heavier garments at the same per-kg cashmere cost have higher per-piece FOB, which the buyer’s margin model can absorb.

Direction 2: Cashmere-wool blends at the upper end. The 70/30 cashmere/wool blend that has been a mid-market option for years is being upgraded. The new FW 2027 blend is 90/10 cashmere/wool — almost full cashmere but with enough wool to bring the unit price down by 15-20% and add a touch of structure. The 90/10 is the most common blend in our 2027 pre-orders for the heavy polo and the long cardigan.

For buyers targeting the $150-300 retail price point (which is where most FW 2027 cashmere is landing), 100% cashmere at 2/26 Nm is a viable buy at 7-9gg. For buyers targeting the $80-150 price point, the 90/10 cashmere/wool blend at the same gauge is the right play.

5. The pre-order lead times and MOQs for FW 2027

For each of the 5 silhouettes, here are the pre-order lead times and MOQs we are quoting in Q3 2026. These are real numbers from our sample room, not aspirational.

Mock-Neck14gg2/48 Nm200 / color4 colors45 daysQ4 2026 — Q1 2027

The “Booking window” column is the period in which you can place a pre-order against the 2027 production calendar. Q4 2026 is the cheapest and most flexible window; Q1 2027 is the latest you can pre-order for FW 2027 retail delivery; Q2 2027 is for late-replenishment orders that ship late Q4 2027.

For a buyer who wants a guaranteed allocation at the 2026 price and the 2026 lead time, the Q4 2026 window is the right one. For a buyer who is still sampling and not ready to commit to volume, the Q1 2027 window is the right one but with a 6-8% price premium and a 6-8 week longer lead time.

6. The 4 mistakes to avoid in FW 2027 pre-orders

From the buyers we are talking to in Q3 2026, the four most common mistakes are:

Mistake 1: Booking too late. Buyers who try to place FW 2027 POs in Q2 2027 are finding that the silhouettes they want are already allocated. The fix is to book in Q4 2026 even if you are still sampling.

Mistake 2: Booking the wrong gauge. Buyers who spec a 14gg funnel neck and end up with a 9gg garment (because their supplier pushed for a lower-cost construction) will lose the editorial silhouette. The fix is to spec the gauge in the PO, not just the silhouette, and to inspect the first 5 pieces.

Mistake 3: Booking the wrong color. Buyers who book a “blue” without specifying “Boreal Blue” (the specific Pantone 17-3930 with the right shade) can end up with a brighter navy. The fix is to send a physical Pantone chip with the PO, or to book a 50g lab dip with the supplier before the bulk PO.

Mistake 4: Booking without a sample-room visit. Buyers who book based on a paper spec or a stock image are missing 50% of what the silhouette actually looks like in the yarn count and gauge they want. The fix is to do at least one sample-room visit (in person or virtual) before the PO.

If you are starting a FW 2027 program, the most efficient way to avoid all four is to book a sample-room visit with us in Q4 2026, confirm the silhouette and color on a real sample, and place the pre-order before the end of Q1 2027. The total elapsed time is 6-8 weeks; the total cost is roughly $2,000-3,000 in sample fees; the payoff is a 100% match between what you ordered and what gets delivered.

7. The 2027 outlook in one paragraph

FW 2027 is shaping up to be a steady year for B2B cashmere, with the raw fiber correction behind us, the EU luxury demand recovering, and the dehairing capacity already largely allocated. The buyers who place pre-orders in Q4 2026 will get the best price, the best lead time, and the best color flexibility. The buyers who wait until Q1 2027 will pay 3-6% more and wait 6-8 weeks longer. The buyers who wait until Q2 2027 will pay 6-10% more, wait 12-16 weeks longer, and have less color choice. The decision is not whether to book a FW 2027 program, but when.

For a 5,000-piece capsule across 5 silhouettes, the lead time from Q4 2026 booking to FW 2027 retail delivery is 9-11 months. The lead time from Q1 2027 booking to FW 2027 retail delivery is 8-10 months. The lead time from Q2 2027 booking to FW 2027 retail delivery is 7-9 months but with significantly higher FOB cost and limited color flexibility. The 6-8 week difference is real, but the 6-10% cost difference is the larger factor for most B2B programs.

We are happy to walk through a FW 2027 capsule design with you, including silhouettes, colors, and material directions, in a 30-60 minute call. The sample room calendar for Q4 2026 is filling up but we have slots available for serious programs.

For a B2B buyer with an existing 2024-2026 relationship with us, the path to a FW 2027 program is straightforward: confirm the silhouette, the gauge, the yarn count, and the color mix in a 30-minute call, then place the pre-order by the end of Q1 2027. The lead time is locked at the 2026 rate; the color flexibility is preserved; the dehairing capacity is reserved.

For a new buyer, the first step is a sample room visit (in person or virtual) and a quote for a development capsule (typically 5-10 pieces per silhouette). The second step is a small first PO (typically 50-100 pieces per silhouette). The third step is a pre-order for FW 2027 production. The total elapsed time is roughly 12-16 weeks, with most of the time on the first-PO QC loop.

Quick answers from this article
